Director Emmanuelle Bercot broaches a painful topic with great empathy and medical insight in her new film, Peaceful. In this heart-wrenching drama, a son (Benoît Magimel) and mother (Catherine Deneuve) are unable to accept a terminal diagnosis. A doctor (Dr. Gabriel Sara, a real-life oncologist), along with a nurse (Cécile de France) help both mother and son come to terms with the reality of the situation, and the treatments they can provide in the interim. Together, they introduce ground-breaking medical protocols that Dr. Sara developed in his real-life practice to help patients.
