Canadian filmmaker Michèle Lemieux joins Jean-Baptiste Garnero and Sophie Le Tétour from France’s CNC (Le Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée) for an in-depth conversation on the pinscreen instrument.

The pinscreen produces beautiful and lyrical black and white short films. Weaving in film clips and photos, the discussion will guide the audience through the history of the device from its creation in the 1930s by artists Alexandre Alexeïeff and Claire Parker to filmmaking on the pinscreen in Canada since the mid-1970s. Learn about the recent efforts in Canada and France to keep the instrument alive through the restoration of the last pinscreen made by its creators and training a new generation of filmmakers on the device.
