Co-directors Zabou Breitman and Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec present an intimate behind-the-scenes look at the making of The Swallows of Kabul (Les Hirondelles de Kaboul), a film based on the bestselling novel by Yasmina Khadra. The film is produced by Les Armatteurs (Persépolis, Kirikou and the Sorceress).
Using clips and film stills, Breitman and Gobbé-Mévellec will discuss various aspects of bringing this animated feature to life, including the genesis of the project, adapting the book in animation, their visual choices and graphic universe, and working with living actors.
They will be joined by actress Hiam Abbass (HBO’s Succession, The Lemon Tree). Numerous animation sequences in the film are based on scenes performed by Ms. Abbass. She also lent her voice and physical appearance to one of the film’s characters.
