About DELF Prim


Give your child the advantage of a French diploma! The DELF Prim is an official certificate awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify the proficiency in French as a Foreign Language of children ages 8 to 12.

Specially drafted for children, DELF Prim is composed of individual certificates and is divided into three levels: DELF Prim A1.1DELF Prim A1 and DELF Prim A2, corresponding to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Why have you child take the DELF Prim?


To reward your child’s work at school and treat him/her with his/her first certificate of French. To officially attest the level of French of your child to enter a bilingual or French School. To give your child the opportunity to be well prepared to pass the next levels of DELF through his/her progress at school.


What does the DELF Prim consist of?


The exam topics are made to suit the age group’s interest: immediate environment (family, personal details, interests, friends), everyday situations, etc.

The following linguistic skills will be assessed:

1. Listening Comprehension
2. Reading Comprehension
3. Written Expression
4. Oral Expression/Interaction

Each candidate needs to obtain at least 50 points out of 100 in all four exam skills mentioned above to earn a diploma.

What kind of preparation is needed?


Students who attended classes Minimes EMN.401 or Minimes EMN.BIL1 / BIL2 at FIAF are well prepared to take this exam and need no additional preparation.

In case your child needs extra preparation, FIAF offers revision workshops before the exam. One of our certified evaluators will reinforce your child’s French language preparation and break down the various elements of the exam for your child to ensure his or her success on the DELF Prim Exam.

Payment is made by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express). You may pay over the phone (646-388-6691).

Exam fee is not refundable once registered. Please note there is a $5 administrative fee in addition to the exam fee.

Exam session transfers are subject to a $50 fee and only permitted before the Registration Deadline of your original exam session. Any candidate who submits a transfer request after this Registration Deadline is subject to repay the full exam fee. Participation can only be transferred to the next session (without penalty) in the case of sickness, provided that a doctor’s note is mailed (not via email) within three days of the original Exam Date. If you have registered for an exam and need to transfer to another session, please email languagecenter@fiaf.org.
