Since 2012, the FIAF Preschool has been offering a French immersion program for toddlers ages 2½ to 4.

Position Summary: The director of Preschool, a full-time position, oversees the development and day to day operations of the FIAF Preschool.

Main Responsibilities

The Director is committed to the highest level of customer service and strives to foster excellent public relations as a key motivation. The Director is under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Education of FIAF, and works with the other FIAF departments to ensure a coordinated and unified service.

  • The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the preschool: follow-up at the administrative and pedagogical levels, budgeting and billing, reports and development of customized programs.
  • The Director is responsible for the yearly admissions process and development of the preschool client base: meeting and recruiting prospective families for our 2 classes
  • The Director is responsible for the development of new products and services in response to evolving needs and ensures long-term planning of the service.
  • The Director is responsible for staying up-to-date with DOH and DOE requirements for our permitted program, under article 47. Our permit is to be renewed every 2 years, with unscheduled inspections by DOH several times a year.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Pedagogical Responsibilities

  • Organize teacher training sessions
  • Evaluate and improve teacher performance through classroom observations and coaching
  • Stay current with the official French curricula for preschool’s instructions as well as teaching French as a foreign language (official curriculum of the French Ministry of Education and European Framework)
  • Substitute for a teacher in case of absence
  • Organize weekly meetings with the preschool staff
  • Fine-tune the preschool’s curriculum and evaluations
  • Promote our preschool at school fairs

Teachers Management/Human Resources

  • Manage a team of about 4 full-time teachers and 1-2 floaters
  • Advise teachers on pedagogy and available pedagogical resources
  • Identify the training needs of the pedagogical team
  • Recruit, train, and assist new preschool teachers

Administrative Tasks

  • Recruit new students/families and organize observation days for the preschool
  • Communicate with parents via email on a regular basis

  • Make sure that the preschool is in compliance with the Department of health rules and regulations

Business Development

  • Communicate program content and updates to parents and answer inquiries
  • Meet with parents regularly to ensure their satisfaction and re-enrollment

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Native French-speaker or equivalent proficiency and fully bilingual
  • Master 1 or 2 minimum in the field of Early Childhood Education or related field
  • A minimum of two years’ experience managing the operations of a preschool or early childhood program a plus
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written (both in French and English)
  • Must be knowledgeable on pedagogy as it relates to French language instruction for children 2-5 years old
  • Must demonstrate a strong capacity to work in a team environment
  • Must be able to adapt to multiple and shifting priorities, be meticulous, thorough and detail- oriented, and be able to meet deadlines and manage time effectively

Job Title: Executive Intern
Department: Executive Office

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) is looking for an Executive Intern from September 28, 2020 to September 2021. The intern will directly assist FIAF’s President in all matters, and work closely with the President’s Executive Assistant, who is American. In this supporting role, the intern will thus participate in the life of a large cultural organization in New York.

Daily tasks include:

  • Writing communications, correspondence, speeches, presentations, mainly in French
  • Monitoring of partnership, sponsorship, marketing and artistic programming
  • Assistance during events organized by FIAF (screenings, theatrical and choreographic performances, culinary tastings, conferences, receptions)
  • Participation in the organization of annual FIAF events (Annual Gala, Bastille Day, Crossing The Line festival, Animation First Festival, Tilt festival)
  • Receiving calls, monitoring the address book, managing the President’s agenda
  • Administrative tasks (archives, storage, provision of communication media, updating of databases)
  • Reception of the President’s VIP guests
  • Liaison between the various departments of FIAF and the President

The intern will have the opportunity to organize and attend meetings of the Board of Directors under the supervision of FIAF’s Legal Counsel, as well as weekly strategic meetings, which will give the intern a unique perspective on the life of an American cultural organization.

Under the supervision of the Vice President of Education, the Youth Programs Coordinator organizes, develops and implements all the Language Center youth programs.

Main Responsibilities:

Pedagogy

  • Develop and enrich the youth programs class offerings, based on clients survey and competition
  • Organize and lead teacher training sessions

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Native French-speaker or equivalent proficiency
  • Master 1 or 2 minimum in the field of teaching French as a foreign language or DAEFLE (diplôme d’aptitude à l’enseignement du français langue étrangère)
  • An official teaching diploma (professeur des écoles for instance)
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in teaching French as a foreign language to a young audience
  • Have good knowledge and understanding of the CEFRL (Common European Framework of Reference for the teaching of Foreign Languages) and the Ministry of Education curriculum for preschool
  • Must be knowledgeable on pedagogy as it relates to French language instruction for children 1 to 17 years old
  • Must be knowledgeable with technologies applied to the teaching of foreign languages

Position Summary: French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF) seeks an experienced, highly-organized, and resourceful coordinator for a fast-paced marketing and communications department.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Director of Communications and the Director of Digital Advertising on all integrated marketing and publicity efforts, including email marketing and press outreach for FIAF’s language center, cultural events, and special events
  • Maintain calendar and implement social media strategy across all FIAF channels
  • Act as inter-departmental trafficker and proofreader to ensure consistency of FIAF style and brand messaging across all print, web, video, and digital assets
  • Manage and cultivate partnerships to increase visibility for FIAF, including school outreach, promotional programs, and trades with similar organizations

Position Summary: The FIAF Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of the organization’s information systems; recommending information technology solutions to management; and implementing such solutions. FIAF’s long-term IT initiatives are established by the executive staff under the guidance of the Systems Administrator.

Full Job Description

  • Develop and maintain information technology infrastructure, including network infrastructure supporting WAN and LAN connectivity for staff and clients; storage, application, and email servers; individual workstations; and business software.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues in a timely manner, maintain communication with impacted users, and document resolutions.
  • Identify and control for information systems risks. This includes deploying and maintaining IT security software and hardware, managing user accounts and permissions, maintaining and testing data backups, patch management, and advising on the creation and implementation of information security policy.
  • Collaborate with departments to implement technology solutions meeting institutional needs. Examples include the installation of educational technology for the school, providing technical support and planning for cultural programs, and accommodating the technical needs of venue rental clients.

FIAF Montclair is looking for enthusiastic teachers of French as foreign language to teach French language and culture to young children, teens and adults. The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), New York’s premier destination for French language and culture, seeks volunteer assistants for its summer camp programs for toddlers (ages 3 & 4), kids (ages 5 to 10) and Teens (ages 11 to 14).

Program duration: From June 15th to August 7th, 2019 from 9:30am-4:30pm • (2 weeks minimum)

Our assistants are passionate about kids’ education and about sharing language and cultural experiences. The ideal candidates will have the following:

  • An intermediate to advanced level of spoken French, sufficient to understand and speak with children, teachers, and parents without relying on English
  • Be 16 years old or more (high school, college, graduate student)
  • Interest and experience working with kids (babysitting, camp counselor, nanny, au pair…)

 

Daily activities will include but will not be limited to:

  • Prepare the classroom with the teacher before class
  • Welcome parents and kids to class
  • Play with children during the free play period
  • Assist the teacher with the organization of classroom activities

Candidates should apply for a specific department and indicate their availability. Interested candidates should apply well in advance.
